Election and Media

The mass media has a responsibility to accurately report on the political and technical aspects of elections, and plays a vital role in informing voters and holding candidates, political parties, and election authorities accountable. Given its impact on public confidence in the electoral process and the legitimacy of the outcome, journalists, editors, and media managers have an obligation to meet professional standards of integrity in their coverage and comply with election-related media rules.

As part of the effort to provide high caliber media coverage of the 2010 presidential elections, the Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism (PCIJ) is training TV, radio, print, and online journalists on electoral topics to improve technical reporting on the electoral process on issues such as the new automated system and campaign finance.
