With a new automated election system for 2010, inconsistencies between the Omnibus Election Code and interrelated laws on the automated elections will be inevitable. IFES will aid COMELEC as it updates the current legal framework on elections. As such IFES works with COMELEC on updating the legal framework on elections. IFES will sponsor workshops with a designated working group within the Commission to identify key areas for reform along with potential legislative champions, and assist COMELEC to draft necessary legislation for consideration by Congress. IFES will involve civil society groups such as Lawyers Network for Truthful Elections—a non-partisan, nationwide network of dedicated and highly-trained volunteer lawyers, paralegals and law students involved in monitoring elections in the Philippines—and the LIBERTAS in these efforts.
